Less about Failure, More about FEEDBACK...

One of my favourite quotes is "There is no failure. Only feedback."

Now, if we were to get pedantic about this quote, it is of course possible to "fail", but the key message to take away, is that no matter the situation and no matter the outcome, there will always be a form of feedback that can be used for re-education, experience and development.

Other related inspirational quotes which highlight the same message include...

"Failure is only the opportunity to begin again more intelligently." ~ Henry Ford

"I have not failed.  I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work." ~ Thomas Edison

"A failure is a man who has blundered, but is not able to cash in the experience." ~ Elbert Hubbard

Simply put, next time you don't achieve your desired outcome, whether this is passing a test, winning new business, accepted for a promotion, stop and think about why this happended.

If you are working as part of a team, have a 'lessons learnt' session to understand not only what could have been done better or differently, but how you can do this next time you are in a similar position.

Everyone fails and no one is perfect - it is however what you do with this failure and the experience you are able to gain that makes the real difference!

Motivation comes from within

Can you be motivated by another person? An interesting topic...

I had this debate with someone recently and came to the conclusion that you can really only be inspired by other individuals or groups of people - to be motivated, you have to seek this from within yourself and ultimately no one person can motivate you to do something differently unless you want really want to.

It's all up to you!

The above quote by Henry Ford encapsulates this thinking and provides a new dimension as well. Not only does motivation come from within, but unless you are committed to think that you can achieve a goal, objective or target you are unlikely to succeed in doing so.

Equally, the negativity in thinking that you can’t achieve that same target, objective or goal will most certainly have a massive impact on your ability to succeed.

Success comes in different form factors and will be completely different for each and every one of us, whether achieved individually or as part of a team.

The key message here is, to be motivated you must have the hunger and eagerness to action and to achieve, whether the target is tiny or completely outlandish – only you can create the boundaries and only you can decide if and how you achieve it...

Food for thought!

Charity Concert with The King's Singers

I have just fininshed designing a banner for a charity concert that my family are organising in association with Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA). This will be used in a magazine article that I will hopefully post in the next couple of weeks.

The King's Singers are one of worlds most celebrated ensambles and Grammy Award Winners and are performing this concert to help raise awareness. All proceeds for this event will go to the Nottinghamshire branch of MNDA.

So far many of the tickets have been sold, however anyone wishing to buy tickets for this event should email mndacharityconcert@gmail.com for more information.

The event programme has been designed for free by Jonathan Pykett from Nottingham and the event has been sponsored by local busineses around Nottinghamshire and the Midlands.

For more information on The King's Singers visit http://www.thekingsingers.com/ and to find out more about MNDA and the fantastic work they do visit http://www.mndassociation.org/
